Potrero man, 62, killed in head-on crash in rural East County [Breaking]
A 62-year-old driver from Portero was killed in a head-on collision near the rural East County community of Campo on Friday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened on Buckman Springs Road south of Interstate 8 just before 2:30 p.m. Friday, Officer Jared Grieshaber said Monday in a news release. Grieshaber said the driver was headed north on Buckman Springs in a 1997 Toyota Tacoma. At the same time, a 35-year-old man from Potrero was headed south on Buckman Springs in a 2015 Toyota Tacoma.Grieshaber said the younger driver’s pickup crossed over the double yellow lines and into northbound lanes north of Corral Canyon Road. The two pickups collided.
The older driver died at the scene. His name has not been released. His passenger, a 59-year-old Potrero woman, was taken to a hospital with major injuries.Grieshaber said neither alcohol nor drugs is suspected to have been a factor in the crash.
