In the most recent addition to Predator lore, a weapon first introduced in Prey was just brought into modern canon - and it needs to stick around.

This article contains spoilers for Predator vs Wolverine #2 Predators have committed their entire culture to hunting the most dangerous prey in the galaxy, as they believe themselves to be an integral part of a cosmic dance of universal balance. Hunting is their religion, and their prey are the Predators’ gods.
In-canon, this ‘weapon’ was last seen used in the early 1700s during the events of Prey. That is, until it was just recently used again in the modern-day within the ongoing crossover event Predator vs Wolverine. In that comic, the Predator uses this spray not after it's already claimed a kill, but to achieve a kill - and the result is just as gruesome as one could imagine.
This series chronicles a Predator as it is trying to kill Wolverine. And this comic takes readers to the moment where Wolverine goes from being a challenge to practically unbeatable. But, before the Predator saw what became of Wolverine, it first had to successfully break into the highly-secure building, and it used the disintegration gas to do it.
