'Extending the eviction moratorium is a matter of life and death for the communities we represent,' progressive House lawmakers wrote in a letter to President Biden.

Eight Democrats led by Reps. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Cori Bush of Missouri told Biden in a letter that a looming eviction crisis demanded"an urgent government response.”

The lawmakers who signed the letter included Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Pramila Jayapal of Washington, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Jimmy Gomez of California and Jamaal Bowman of New York. The Biden administration has said that it did not extend the moratorium implemented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention because of a Supreme Court ruling last month that indicated a majority of justices believed the CDC exceeded its authority.now face the risk of eviction
