The threat of a Twindemic has health officials urging flu and COVID vaccines.
Worried about the coming winter and uptakes in COVID-19 and flu infections, the UK Health Security Agency is moving swiftly with its Autumn Booster programme, inviting more than 30 million people to get their flu and bivalent booster jabs at the same time.
Children were the next group that the agency would like to see come forward for flu shots, as in 2021 only about 50% of children aged 2-3 years and under 60% of primary school children received flu shots. Immunising children not only cuts down on the rate of flu infections, but also helps stop transmission to adults in their households. Children will receive the nasal spray instead of a jab.
"The H3N2 flu strain can cause particularly severe illness. If you are elderly or vulnerable because of other conditions you are at greater risk, so getting the flu jab is a sensible, potentially life-saving thing to do.
