The second floor of the Palisades Park Municipal Complex on Broad Avenue is unsafe for workers, according to the public works director.
The Palisades Park Municipal Complex on Broad Avenue received dozens of fire code violations and health complaints about mold that have yet to be addressed, officials said.The director of public works in Palisades Park has ordered his staff from their offices in the municipal complex, citing an unsafe work environment and more than 40 fire code violations throughout the building.
Local Inspectors wrote violations for storage of flammable and combustible materials in the police department, an unsafe cooking vent in the firehouse kitchen, discharged or outdated fire extinguishers, multiple extension cords running over cluttered desks, open electrical boxes, a light fixture damaged by water in the court and council chambers, and storage containers blocking fire exits.
Recent photos submitted by workers to NJ Advance Media show the abandoned second floor with peeling paint, exposed wires and extension cords running across desks covered in paperwork. In addition to fire hazards, the municipal complex has been plagued with mold and asbestos “for many years,” Lorenzo wrote in an Oct. 3 email to the Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health program.
