Puerto Rico has lost power as Hurricane Fiona batters the island with sustained winds of 80 miles per hour.
Puerto Rico Gov. Pedro Pierluisi confirmed the island lost electricity but is beginning to work to restore power, beginning with the Palo Seco power plant. President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration from the governor Sunday, authorizing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to organize and coordinate relief efforts.The island is still recovering from the disastrous impact of Hurricane Maria in 2017, when thousands of people died and relief was held up.
