Purdue Pharma is close to a settlement with cities and half of states over the opioid crisis

Purdue Pharma LP is close to securing support from states and local governments for a multibillion-dollar deal that will enable the drugmaker to resolve mounting litigation and restructure through bankruptcy, according to people familiar with the matter.

The embattled OxyContin maker and its owners, the Sacklers, have been fighting some 2,500 lawsuits brought by virtually every state as well as cities, counties and Native American tribes accusing the company of helping fuel widespread opioid addiction.
