Star Trek 3 - coming January 4 - teases that Q will finally take a side in the franchise's raging war of the gods. But will Q support Sisko's efforts to stop his mysterious foe, or does he support a cull of the galaxy's godlike beings?

Warning: contains spoilers for Star Trek #2! Q, the omnipotent trickster figure of the Star Trek universe, is finally taking a side in the franchise’s god war. Something, or someone, is slaughtering the god-like beings of Star Trek, and a recently returned Captain Benjamin Sisko must find out who - and why. Now, he stage is set for Sisko and the crew of the Theseus to confront Q - who is likely at risk as well.

IDW Publishing’s new Star Trek series kicked off with the return of Ben Sisko, who had been living with the mysterious Prophets for the past three years. The Prophets sent Sisko back to discern who or what is killing god-like entities. Upon his arrival, Sisko still retained some of the knowledge he gained from the Prophets, but the longer he stays away, the more the knowledge fades.

Star Trek Gives Q New Importance in the Universe When strange malfunctions begin to plague the USS Theseus mid-warp, Benjamin Sisko and his crew must band together to unveil the source behind the mysterious phenomena aboard the ship. But what initially appear as mere technological quagmires and strange happenings become a test that will determine the very fate of the universe.

As one of the premiere god-like beings of the Star Trek universe, it makes perfect sense for Q to appear in this series, as he is most likely also going to be a target of its mysterious villain. Yet why is Q testing Sisko, as the solicitation implies, especially with the threat facing him? A previous comic, The Q Conflict revealed that Q despises other god-like beings, such as the Organians, the Prophets and Trelane. Perhaps Q wishes to see his “competition” eliminated before he makes his move.

When Q does make his appearance in the next issue, another complicating factor is his relationship with Sisko. Q visited Deep Space Nine shortly after Sisko took command. Q goaded Sisko into a fight and when the latter punched him so hard it knocked him over, Q took the hint and never returned.
