As a 19-year-old, Alejandro Osuna more than held his own against older competition.
: Signed as a 17-year-old out of Mexico, Osuna has pitching in his veins. He’s the younger brother of former closer Roberto Osuna and the nephew of former reliever Antonio Osuna. He, however, chose to play the field.Osuna was not on our prospect list at the start of 2022 but jumped in by mid-season due to top-tier speed and athleticism.
As a 19-year-old at Class A Down East, he torched the league for the first three months hitting .308./394/.451/.845 against mostly older competition on the way to a wRC of +141. He spent his last month as a 19-year-old at more advanced Hickory where he more than held his own. He finished the year with 35 steals, though he was caught 18 times before a sore groin sidelined him for the final three weeks of the season.
