The Tampa Bay Rays stayed undefeated at Tropicana Field by skewering Astros starting pitcher José Urquidy in a series-opening win.
. The Rays made sure there would be no comebacks Monday.
The Rays, who have the best record in baseball at 20-3, fell behind 2-0 in the first inning but poured on runs against Astros starter José Urquidy, including a four-run third. It was just a couple weeks ago that Urquidy had turned in two impressive starts — one run in 5 1/3 innings against the Twins and six shutout innings against the Pirates — but he hasn’t been able to replicate those results since.
The four-run third inning was especially disappointing for Urquidy because he was so close to getting out of it with minimal damage. After allowing the Rays to tie things up at 3, Urquidy had two outs in the inning before walking two batters to load the bases. Even still, he had a chance to escape. He immediately got right fielder Josh Lowe down 0-2.
