Despite rising Islamophobia in the UK, the highest number of Muslim candidates ever has been elected to the British parliament
British Muslims conclude their prayers for the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which marks the end of the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, outside London's Central Mosque across from Regent's Park, Friday Sept. 10, 2010.
However, Muslims in the UK are far from a monolithic voter block, their 3.4 million population is considered electorally significant.Of those elected, 15 are members of the Labour Party and the other four are Conservatives. The concerns raised by the organisation were echoed by former chairwoman of Conservative Party Baroness Sayeeda Warsi. The first female Muslim cabinet minister said that the Conservative Party “must start healing its relationship with British Muslims”.
