Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) has said his mother was inside one of the World Trade Center towers when they were attacked on Sept. 11, 2001, but immigration records indicate that Santos’s mother wasn’t in the U.S. on that day, contradicting his claims.
Santos’s mother, Fatima Devolder, applied for a visa to enter the United States from her home country of Brazil in February 2003, and on that application, stated that she had not been in the United States since 1999.
The site goes on to say that “She survived the tragic events on September 11th, but she passed away a few years later when she lost her battle to cancer.”that Santos’s mother died in December 2016, after which he solicited donations to pay for her funeral.
