The need to restore confidence in the elections system is the reason the two Republican Lycoming County commissioners said they voted for the recount.

Matt Smith / For Spotlight PAWILLIAMSPORT – The hand recount of the 2020 general election for two races in Lycoming County went smoothly the first day, the director of elections says.
An estimated 10,000 more ballots were counted before the 11 two-person teams comprised of county employees completed work for the day, he said. The recount continues Tuesday. Only insignificant discrepancies have been discovered between the hand count results and those from scanners, he said.Those doing the recount try to resolve any issues with ballot marks among themselves but if they can’t, Lehman said he or a supervisor is available to make the final decision.
Karen DiSalvo, an attorney who represents a loose-knit group of conservatives and former President Trump supporters, claimed at one board meeting more ballots were cast in the 2020 general election than registered voters.
