Aaron Civale will be making rehab starts in the Guardians’ Minor League system very soon.
Wednesday in Houston because of a strained left gluteus maximus muscle. He suffered the injury in his last start on May 20 against the Tigers at Progressive Field. Civale slipped and fell trying to make a play at first base in the seventh inning.
Lefty Konnor Pillkington made Civale’s start on Friday against the Tigers after being recalled from from Class AAA Columbus. He’s scheduled to make at least one more before Civale is activated. “He caught everyone’s eye in spring training,” said pitching coach Carl Willis. “On top of that, he’s got a good arm, a good fastball and slider. He uses his changeup against lefties effectively. He’s just a great kid.”
De Los Santos didn’t make the Guardians out of spring training, but it had more to do with the length of camp than his performance.
