Almost three years after the removal of a statue of a Confederate soldier in Jacksonville, Florida, the city has removed the remains of the monument.

Both groups are committed to regular peaceful protest until all signs of the Confederacy are scrubbed from the public square. Johnson was one of the founders of the NAACP and served as the group’s secretary from 1916-1930. in the Florida State Senate which would provide “that a person or an entity that damages, defaces, destroys, or removes a monument or memorial is liable for treble the costs to return, repair, or replace the monument or memorial.” The bill died in Rules in early May.
