Republican lawmakers said the chamber will vote later in the day on a motion by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., a McCarthy antagonist, that could potentially remove McCarthy from his post. Said Steube: "I don't understand if [Florida Republican Rep. Matt] Gaetz is going to make an accusation that McCarthy is working with Democrats, now the Democrats have the ability to determine who is the speaker of the Republican conference after the overwhelming majority [of Republicans] supported Kevin to be speaker."
