The students’ symptoms “aligned with the ingestion of a controlled substance,” she said. The school system said it could not make such an assertion, because it had received no confirmation from the fire department or the hospital. Four students were taken to a hospital for evaluation, a fire department spokesman said. He said it appeared that the smell may have been sewer gas.
