Los republicanos rechazaron el martes en la primera votación la candidatura del representante Jim Jordan a la presidencia de la Cámara de Representantes, ya que los opositores negaron al aliado de Donald Trump la mayoría necesaria para hacerse con el puesto.
Se tienen previstas más votaciones mientras Jordan trabaja para apuntalar el apoyo para sustituir al destituido Kevin McCarthy en el cargo y el líder del flanco ultraderechista del Partido Republicano se afana para ocupar un puesto central del poder estadounidense.
Pero con la presión pública ejercida sobre los legisladores por los aliados de Trump, incluido Sean Hannity, de Fox News Channel, no está claro cuánto tiempo puede durar la resistencia. Jordan se deshizo rápidamente de decenas de detractores en cuestión de días, apuntalando a los republicanos a los que les quedan pocas opciones.
