After Rep. Jim Jordan’s bid to win the position of House Speaker failed in three votes this week, House Republicans decided Friday to move on and search for a new nominee. Jordan failed to win over Republican holdouts, with Republican opposition to his bid growing with each vote throughout the week, despite Jordan receiving an endorsement from former president and 2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.
The secret ballot vote came hours after Jordan’s third failed ballot on the House floor. He had lost GOP support with each successive vote. Republicans dropped Rep. The hard-charging Judiciary Committee chairman said House Republicans now need to come together and “figure out who our speaker is going to be.”After Rep. Jim Jordan failed to get enough support to win the speakership in three House floor votes, Republicans have elected to move on.
