The Richmond Heights Police Department is offering a $5,000 bonus to new hires. These hires may be new to law enforcement or experienced officers now working for other departments. Auxiliary officers are also being sought.
The Richmond Heights Police Department, like some other area departments, is in need of more officers and is offering a bonus to those it hires.RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Richmond Heights Police Department is looking for a few good officers, and will pay a $5,000 bonus to those it hires.
Creating the space for one of the needed patrol officers was the recent promotion to lieutenant of former sergeant Joseph Arbogast. Arbogast will fill the void created when former lieutenant Denise DeBiase retired in May. Because Arbogast is moving up from sergeant, a patrol officer will soon be promoted to sergeant.
“We’re in the process of doing a lot of recruitment things,” Williams said, “going to colleges and universities and police academies that are ongoing in the area, and blasting it out on social media and the media. We’re definitely getting the word out there and trying to up our ranks. It’s a challenge.”
Williams, who became interim chief in February and who has made himself a candidate for the position on a regular basis, believes the legal aspect will be ironed out in the next couple of weeks so that two or three officers can be hired a month from now.
