A nonprofit at the center of a college cheating scandal gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to athletic programs at USC, Chapman University and other schools in recent years, tax documents show.
was nothing more than a means to launder money from wealthy parents to bribe college administrators and coaches as part of a massive cheating scandal to get their children admitted into the schools. Fifty people have been charged in the probe.
In 2015, the nonprofit gave $250,000 to athletic programs at USC, including its water polo and women’s volleyball programs, $294,000 to the University of Texas Athletics, $250,000 to Yale Summer Time Sports and $175,000 to Chapman University.In 2014, USC sports programs received $225,000, while NYU Athletics received $203,998, the tax records show. The year before, the Fullerton Futbol Academy at Cal State Fullerton received $100,000, the records state.
He cooperated with authorities in the investigation and pleaded guilty to the charges in Boston on Tuesday afternoon, according to court records.
