“Tusk,” a stunning black-and-gold ’69 Charger built by the Ringbrothers has a 1000-hp Hellephant crate motor squeezed under the carbon-fiber hood.
, we turn our attention to"Tusk," a stunning black-and-gold '69 Charger built by the award-winning Ringbrothers, Mike and Jim Ring, with design from Gary Ragle. Located in the Ringbrothers booth , the Charger's name was derived from the 1000-hp Hellephant crate motor squeezed under the carbon-fiber hood.
In the struggle to squeeze the 426ci supercharged V-8 into the engine bay, a custom firewall was repositioned 2.5-inches back, aiding weight distribution. The front wheels were also moved 2-inches forward, creating a longer wheelbase to aid cornering stability. A great deal of metal fabrication was needed to create the new fenders, which incorporate billet vents behind the wheels to allow brake heat to escape. The rocker panels were also extended through the front fenders and lowered one inch to visually lower and extend the body, while the rear quarters were reshaped behind the wheels to align with the front.
Down the side, the marker lights were removed, and new door skins built, eliminating the non-functional side vents. The door handles are now keyless, as is the trunk operation. What you won't see are the custom floors and transmission tunnel, but you should spot the seamless transition from the rear roof pillars to the rear deck and the dual fuel-fillers to feed the thirsty Hellephant.
Once everything was completed, the car was painted BASF Glasurit"Black to the Future" and AIH Chrome Plating took care of the shiny stuff. The black leather interior by Upholstery Unlimited features a carbon-fiber console, steering wheel, and"pistol-grip" shifter, as well as billet sill plates. If you're attending SEMA, visit the Ringbrothers booth #23191 in Central Hall to see the"Tusk" Charger in the flesh.
