Riot police arrested a number of left-wing protestors that disrupted proceedings at the Montana state capitol in support of a censured transgender lawmaker.
Democratic Montana state Rep. Zooey Zephyr, the first transgender person elected to the Montana State House, speaks on the floor.after telling Republicans during a House floor debate on amendments to Senate Bill 99, which would prohibit sex change treatment for minors, that they have"blood on hands," a notion the lawmaker hopes will be present in their prayers.
Zephyr's comments lead to the House voting in favor of the lawmaker's censure on Thursday, citing"hate-filled testimony." Zephyr, who is one of the first two transgender candidates elected to the Montana Legislature, was intentionally misgendered on April 18, 2023, in a demand by the Montana Freedom Caucus that the state House censure her for comments she made on the House floor about a bill to ban transgender medical care for children.
