The Rise of Skywalker perfectly completed an idea established by Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace, thematically connecting both films.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker brought the entire saga full circle by completing a theme first established in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. The Star Wars sequel trilogy ended with the Resistance defeating Palpatine's Final Order, and the way they did so perfectly reflects the idea that was important right from the start of the prequel trilogy.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT As the first film in Star Wars' "Skywalker saga," The Phantom Menace set up several themes that became crucial in later movies. The corruption within the Galactic Republic and the failings of the senate and the Jedi Order made clear why the galaxy willingly went along with Palpatine's actions in creating the Galactic Empire.
The importance of helping others is a consistent theme across every Star Wars era. The movies and TV shows set during the Empire's reign showed that many people failed to help each other, and how most rebel cells tried to fight the Empire alone for years. It wasn't until the true birth of the Rebel Alliance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that they achieved their first major victory against the Empire.
Rise Of Skywalker's Galaxy Fleet Is The Perfect Response The arrival of the Galaxy Fleet in The Rise of Skywalker is the perfect response to Anakin Skywalker's words in The Phantom Menace. Most Star Wars battles involve powerful Jedi Knights, highly trained soldiers, or seasoned X-Wing pilots arriving to save the day. What set the Galaxy Fleet apart, though, is that it was primarily composed of ordinary citizens.
The Phantom Menace's focus on the importance of helping others is one of the most significant themes in Star Wars, and The Rise of Skywalker completed it perfectly. While the sequel trilogy focused on new characters and plot lines, it's good that the team behind the final "Skywalker saga" film decided to tie the story back to themes established at the beginning.
