The 2022 Grey Cup Festival will be incomplete if the Saskatchewan Roughriders don\u0027t win this year\u0027s CFL title, according to Rob Vanstone.
A procession of dignitaries spread the word that the Regina-based events of Nov. 15 to 20 would be The Best Ever! Better than any other Grey Cup. Better than puppies with wet noses, ice cream, and oxygen.
The previous Regina-based Festival, held in 1995, also concluded with a neutral-site Grey Cup game. The Baltimore Stallions left the the Queen City as the CFL’s first American-based champion, thanks to a 37-20 victory over the Calgary Stampeders. That notion was eventually doused with cold water. The unprecedented events of 1995, cloaked in a “Huddle Up in Saskatchewan” theme that was infinitely catchier than this year’s “Bring it to the Heartland” yawner, were an unqualified hit — even though that year’s edition of the Roughriders failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Presented with one final chance to win a championship at Taylor Field, the Roughriders of 2013 delivered.
