• Kudos to Philadelphia Eagles cornerback James Bradberry for an admirable display of accountability and honesty following Sunday’s 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in. Late in the game, Bradberry was flagged for holding Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster — a penalty that effectively secured a third NFL title for Kansas City. After the game, Bradberry faced reporters and stated: “It was a holding. I tugged his jersey. I was hoping they would let it slide.
• As for the “let it slide” part, that mentality was embraced by the Chiefs’ Jerick McKinnon with just under two minutes left in Sunday’s game. McKinnon could have snapped a 35-35 tie with an 11-yard touchdown run. However, crossing the goal line would have been risky, because the Eagles would have had plenty of time in which to move the football and potentially tie the game. Recognizing that, McKinnon slid to the turf at the two-yard line after registering a first down.
• Many football players, at all levels, lack situational awareness. Time after time, you see a player running out of bounds when his team is attempting to hold on to a lead, or a receiver breaking off a route a yard or two short of first-down territory. Then, as a welcome contrast, there is McKinnon. He could have scored a Super Bowl touchdown and created the memory of a lifetime.
