Rockets forward K.J. Martin will get his wish to dunk his way through the All-Star weekend.
Martin, who has been a reliable showstopper as a prolific dunker in his three NBA seasons and made no secret of his desire to compete in the NBA dunk contest, has accepted an invitation to participate in the competition during the All-Star weekend next month in Salt Lake City, a person with knowledge of his decision confirmed on Sunday. The Athletic first reported that Martin will participate.
Martin, who went into Sunday’s game 10th in the NBA in dunks with 75 while at 6-7 the shortest of any of the top 10, has had a strong season since his switch to small forward, averaging 10.4 points on 55 percent shooting and 4.8 rebounds in 24 minutes per game. He was part of a celebrated dunk contest at his high school, Sierra Canyon , in 2019 won by Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Drake London when he rotated through a 540 dunk.
Trail Blazers rookie Shaedon Sharpe confirmed that he has also accepted an invitation to participate in the contest Feb. 18.
