Roger Triemstra, a longtime weatherman at WGN in Chicago, died of natural causes on Friday, Nov. 4. He was 92.
For 33 years, Roger Triemstra was a popular meteorologist and a purveyor of folksy humor on Chicago’s airwaves, first on WGN-Ch. 9 and then on WGN-AM radio, where he was a staple on the late Bob Collins’ top-rated morning show.
Born and raised on a farm in south suburban South Holland, Triemstra graduated from Thornton Township High School in Harvey and received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He served in the Air Force at a command center in Ohio, forecasting weather for pilots during the Korean War, then studied meteorology at St. Louis University.
