When a reporter asked about Donald Trump’s negative comments toward him, Ron DeSantis didn’t even say the former president's name as he touted his own record
Maybe the most dire example of not getting paid attention to came from the other corner of Florida, where Governorspoke to reporters in the panhandle before Trump’s speech last night. Since his smashing performance on Election Night, DeSantis has been ascendant within the Republican Party; many see him as a way to advance the GOP’s hard-right agenda without the baggage of a loser candidate. When a reporter asked about Trump’s negative comments toward him, DeSantis didn’t even say his name.
DeSantis spoke mostly of Republicans’ poor performance in the midterm elections where Trump-endorsed candidates losing helped cost the party its shot at retaking the Senate and endangered chances at the House, too. “There were a lot, a lot of disappointments,” he said. “That’s just the reality. It was a hugely underwhelming, disappointing performance.
