The move will likely hurt DeSantis as he struggles to gain his footing with Republican women.
Thursday, the New Hampshire Federation of Republican Women criticized the Florida governor and Republican presidential hopeful for an alleged attempt to"pull focus" from the group's annual Lilac Luncheon in Concord later this month.
The event is a significant fundraiser for the organization and a key stop for candidates seeking to court' favor ahead of the state's critical first-in-the-nation primary. Earlier this week, the group announced it had officially sold out of tickets for the June 27 event in what the organization described as the largest Lilac Luncheon crowd in the organization's near-80-year history.
Presidential candidate and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis engages with people after speaking to a crowd on June 2, 2023, in Gilbert, South Carolina. DeSantis is being called out by a Republican women's group in New Hampshire for scheduling an event at the same time as they're throwing a luncheon for Donald Trump.
"This attempt to pull focus from our Lilac Luncheon only diminishes the efforts of the Republican women in New Hampshire who are volunteers, working hard to provide opportunities for our membership to have access to all the candidates.""To have a candidate come in and distract from the most special event NHFRW holds in the year is unprecedented," events director Christine Peters said in the statement.

Inside the Deepening Rivalry Between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and California Gov. Gavin NewsomCalifornia Gov. Gavin Newsom says there’s no chance “on God’s green earth” he’s running for president in 2024. But Newsom wants to make clear Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is running, is “weak” and “undisciplined” and “will be crushed by Donald Trump” in the Republican primary. The fierce rivalry features dueling governors who represent opposite ends of the ideological spectrum from two of the nation’s largest and most influential states. Newsom and DeSantis almost certainly won’t face each other on any ballot in 2024. But in many ways they are defining the debate this election season.
