Despite being panned by critics, Ron DeSantis's new memoir has made him a millionaire.
But the windfall presents a potential image problem for the candidate, who has touted his blue-collar roots throughout his campaign. In one widely mocked passage from the memoir, DeSantisthat he “was geographically raised in Tampa Bay, but culturally my upbringing reflected the working-class communities in western Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio — from weekly church attendance to the expectation that one would earn his keep.
Though DeSantis appears to have come by his sales honestly, many conservative bestsellers have needed a bit of a helping hand.in 2021 that four Republican Party-affiliated organizations “collectively spent more than $1 million during the past election cycle mass-purchasing books written by GOP candidates, elected officials and personalities,” minting multiple new bestsellers.
