The stunning 65-yard pass from KC Chatham to Corey Thompson-Miller won the game, but the top two teams in San Diego County went toe-to-toe right to the finish.

Carlsbad High running back Mason Walsh started the game with a 74-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage.The sacks, and pressure on a fourth-down pass attempt, blunted Carlsbad’s last-ditch drive, giving Lincoln a 28-24 win and the San Diego Section Open Division championship Friday at Snapdragon Stadium.The Hornets advance to the Southern California Regionals with pairings to be announced on Dec. 4.

Lincoln got a quick-strike TD when Chatham hit Mahki Gray with a perfect pass, beating the Carlsbad secondary for 80 yards. Chatham hit Raylon Logan with the two-point PAT, and Lincoln was within 24-21 with 6:02 remaining. The Carlsbad defenders swung him around, but he broke free and raced down the sideline for a 65-yard TD, giving Lincoln a 28-24 lead with 3:38 to play.

Chatham finished the game 11 of 22 for 231 yards and three TDs. Lincoln running back Roderick Robinson had 24 carries for 121 yards.
