There was supposed to be a scheduling hearing in this case, but Justice Juan Merchan decided against it, saying it could probably wait until next year. Lawyers not involved in the Trump cases have suggested this trial might ultimately get delayed so that one or more of the federal cases against Trump can get to a jury in the first half of 2024. While Merchan hasn’t moved the date, he doesn’t appear determined to keep it.In every criminal case, the government hands its evidence to defense attorneys so they can review it and craft their defense strategy.
