The U.S. on Sunday warned the United Nations of what the aftermath of a full-scale Russian assault on Ukraine could look like, a dire assessment of “widespread human suffering” based on “credible information” obtained by the U.S. government.

The White House on Sunday said Biden had agreed “in principle” to meet with Putin—an agreement—provided Russia does not invade Ukraine. “We are always ready for diplomacy,” White House press secretaryin a statement. “We are also ready to impose swift and severe consequences should Russia instead choose war,” she continued, a path that the president continues to anticipate. “Currently, Russia appears to be continuing preparations for a full-scale assault on Ukraine very soon.
