A Florida man who was stopped for speeding insisted that Russian President Vladimir Putin made him do it. — via drivingdotca autonews russianhome floridanews

“Traffic Tuesday calls for some cop humour,” said a posting — shared with the hashtag, #RussianHome — on the department’s Facebook page.

The body-cam footage from a Flagler County Sheriff’s County deputy was taken on the day Putin started his invasion of Ukraine. When asked why he sped and blew through a stop sign, the apologetic driver claimed he was distracted by the news. “I just found out that Putin said he’s going to launch nuclear thermal war against the world,” said the bumbling motorist. “I was trying to get back to my house to find out what’s going on.”He continued his pleas: “I’m freaking out here, guy. OK? I’ve got people in the Ukraine.”

Perhaps the deputy would’ve been more sympathetic if he hadn’t spluttered a few other excuses before including figuring out how to get his new ride out of “sport mode.”
