The Galaxy S22 is already a very solid flagship. Can the Galaxy S23 knock it down enough to warrant a quick upgrade? Or, on the flip side, should you buy a Galaxy S22 instead of waiting for and splurging full price for the upcoming Galaxy S23?
It's hard to imagine that Samsung can do anything to improve its screens currently. The manufacturer has perfected its AMOLED screens over a span of many years and the Galaxy S22 has excellent, sharp, vibrant displays. We expect nothing less from the Galaxy S23. We also imagine sizes and dimensions will stay the same, with both screens having a 6.1-inch diagonal, 19.5:9 aspect ratio. That'd mean that the resolution also stays the same — 1080 x 2340 for a packed 422 PPI density.
But, to be fair, the Galaxy S22's flat sides and flat screen also make it a pleasure to handle. While we can't call it small, it's definitely a... handy smartphone. By all means, we do expect the Galaxy S23 series to have a bump in performance — it's only natural, as technologies get better and better. But if we see those numbers, that will be an awesome improvement over an already powerful Galaxy S22.
However, we do know that the Galaxy S22 is still eligible for major updates, so we expect very little difference in the software of both phones. We remind you that Samsung has pledged 4 years of software support for its flagships , meaning the Galaxy S22 will get Android 16 and call it quits in early 2026. The Galaxy S23 should receive Android 17 and then be done.
