The alleged attack outside the SAP Center was the first of two similar events in the span of three days.
A man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted carjacking after he allegedly approached a vendor with a baseball bat on Feb. 18, according to SJPD. A viral video showed a man smashing the food cart with a bat and entering the vendor’s truck.
While SJPD said the two incidents were unrelated, the timing spurred a strong reaction from local politicians. In a news conference last Thursday, San Jose Councilmember Omar Torres called the events an “ongoing attack” on small businesses and food vendors.
