Sarah McBride seeks to become Delaware's first transgender state senator.
“I’ve spent my life fighting for people to have dignity, peace of mind, and a fair shot at staying afloat and getting ahead,” she said in her campaign announcement video.
McBride has also served as national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign, a LGBTQ advocacy organization, and is the author of the memoir “Tomorrow Will Be Different: Love, Loss, and the Fight for Trans Equality.” In 2017, Democrat Danica Roem became the first openly transgender person to be elected to a state legislature when she defeated incumbent Republican Bob Marshall in the Virginia House of Delegates.
