ICYMI: Sask. hikes hunting and fishing fees as part of overall surcharge changes
While the government expects the increase in these licensing fees will generate $3.27 million in additional revenue, Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation executive director Darrell Crabbe said it could result in fewer hunters obtaining licences.
While the province says most fees will increase by $5, the cost for each licence varies on the type of resident and animal. The increase to these fees is part of a swath of changes to provincial service charges that, because of reductions in other areas, will see the government bring in a net $2.7 million more than last year.Article content
The fine for stunting is currently $175 and street racing is $150. The province anticipates to collect $95,000 in the 2022-23 fiscal year and $176,000 in subsequent years. These fees had been waived for two years but are now being brought back. Revenue from these fees is expected to be $260,000.
