A new survey from the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses stated three\u002Din\u002Dfive respondents have said they’ve considered stepping away from the profession
According to a new survey released Tuesday by the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses , roughly four in five respondents said there were permanent or temporary vacancies in the workplace — more than double when compared to last year’s members’ report.
She continued, “What does that say for health care? It says that it’s in a tailspin, that this is a system in crisis.” In the survey, almost three in five of respondents have said they’ve considered stepping away from the profession over the past 12 months. Among them are bringing in an additional 150 seats for nursing students, as well as aiming to recruit more people from Canada and the world, particularly from the Philippines.
The lack of staffing at some of the facilities have resulted in the disruptions, causing people to seek help in towns further away from their homes. Beck said the province needs to implement a plan that attracts and retains workers in rural Saskatchewan. This includes increasing the number of student seats, she said.
