So what has to happen for the 2022 Rockies to make the playoffs?
Friday, after Kris Bryant signed a $182 million contract, the Rockies owner said: “We’re extremely excited to have Kris with us for the next seven years, and to help us win that elusive World Series that we are all looking for.”But rather than leap into the doomsday bonfire along with everybody else, I’ll take a more optimistic — some might say delusional — view of the Rockies’ future.
* Find a center fielder — be it Sam Hilliard, Raimel Tapia or Garrett Hampson — who can cover a lot of ground and produce consistently at the plate. Remember, Bryant is 30 and Blackmon turns 36 on July 1. They’ll need help covering the vast acreage at Coors Field. * Some player, most likely second basemen Brendan Rodgers, or possibly outfielder Connor Joe, needs to have a breakout season.
