Claudio Quesada-Rodríguez and his 13-year-old daughter Sara visit Costa Rica beaches at night and bring sea turtle eggs to a hatchery. When they hatch, the pair brings the babies back to the water.

Quesada-Rodríguez and his team go to the beach at night during the turtles’ nesting and hatching seasons and move the eggs to a hatchery to protect them. When the sea turtles hatch, they return the babies to the beach.“The reason I spend so much time and effort with them is really because I just like them so much. I feel like I am helping save the species,” Sara says. “I feel like it is worth the effort to make sure the incredible sea turtles can nest safely.
Quesada-Rodríguez says educating local communities about the role sea turtles play in the ecosystem plays a key role in his work. Now, he’s finally seeing results after doing this work for 30 years.Spanish translation by Analia Cooper.
