Democratic leaders are sending a letter to Fox News executives demanding the network stop spreading misinformation about the 2020 election and for its hosts to admit on air they were wrong to do so.
In their letter Wednesday, Schumer and Jeffries warned Fox News executives that spreading false propaganda about the so-called “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was stolen could further embolden its believers and Trump’s supporters to engage in more political violence.
“Fox News executives and all other hosts on your network have a clear choice,” Schumer and Jeffries wrote. “You can continue a pattern of lying to your viewers and risking democracy or move beyond this damaging chapter in your company’s history by siding with the truth and reporting the facts. We ask that you make sure Fox News ceases disseminating the “big lie” and other election conspiracy theories on your network.
In response to Murdoch’s newly public testimony, the White House emphasized that Biden had won, despite Fox News reportedly putting its thumb on the scale for Trump. “Regardless of any new revelations of media bias and hypocrisy during the 2020 campaign, Joe Biden won the most votes of any candidate in American history because of his vision for the middle class, his message, and his record,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement Tuesday. “And anyone who is surprised by such revelations hasn’t been paying attention to — or watching — Fox News lately.
