The Scientologist cruise ship with a measles case returns to sea—but where will it be able to dock?
epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth told the Associated Press that a female crew member from Europe visited a doctor in before the ship departed for St. Lucia. Doctors confirmed it was the measles—but after the ship had already left the island.
Once the ship docked in St. Lucia, health officials confirmed the measles case and instituted a quarantine, citing the “highly infectious” nature of the disease. Merlene Fredericks-James, St. Lucia’s chief medical officer, said in aposted to YouTube that more people on board may have come into contact with the infected crew member, causing the illness to spread. But only one case has been confirmed.
During the quarantine, no one could get off the ship. But the St. Lucian government did not have the authority to keep the ship there,
