Potential interim appointees for the District 10 seat have until 5 p.m. Nov. 28 to apply.
District 10 Councilman Clayton Perry gives a statement at his district office on Monday, Nov. 14, 2022 prior to a City Council special session to admonish Perry for his involvement in a hit-and-run incident last week. The council will likely seek his resignation from office.Clayton Perry’s leave of absence from City Council — after crashing his Jeep Wrangler into another vehicle on the Northeast Side on Nov. 6 and then fleeing the scene — leaves District 10 without a representative.
It’s unclear when Perry, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the crash, plans to return to City Hall. He said he would seek medical care, but offered no details. Perry collects an annual salary of $45,722, as set for council members in the city charter. However, he plans to decline his compensation during his leave, said city spokeswoman Laura Mayes.
City Council can’t remove Perry from office unless he is convicted of a crime of “moral turpitude,” or a shameful or vile act, according to the city charter. In addition to the hit-and-run charge, Chief William McManus said last week that the San Antonio Police Department would level a drunken driving charge against Perry, 67.
