Dry storm ponds hold water that would otherwise cause flooding during heavy rainfalls. When dry, they serve as park and recreational space.
Bruce Denie, who lives in the area of the new pond, said his property is at a high enough elevation that he hasn’t experienced the frequent flooding that has plagued other nearby property owners. He called the new park “a nice green space,” but lamented what he called a lack of “park amenities” compared to what was built at Ashley Park, noting he and other residents expected more benches and paved pathways when they first learned the project was to be built.
Plans are in place for each of the flood mitigation projects to be built and operational by the end of 2027, McMann noted.
