Universal Parks and Resorts announced Wednesday that its next park will be in Texas.
The company is adding to its five parks with one in Frisco, Texas, geared specifically toward families with young children. It will include"family-friendly attractions, interactive and playful shows, [and] character meet and greets" according to a company press release.
There is no opening date set, while 97 acres east of the Dallas North Tollway and north of Panther Creek Parkway have been set aside for the project. It is also the smallest of the parks, as the company claims it is intended for a regional audience. “We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the city of Frisco and Mayor Cheney as we work to bring this innovative, new concept to life designed specifically for a younger generation of Universal fans,” President of New Ventures Page Thompson said. “We think North Texas is the perfect place to launch this unique park for families given its growing popularity within this part of the country.
Frisco saw more than a 70% population increase from 2010 to 2020 according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The bureau estimates that over a third of its current population is under the age of 18. "We are excited to welcome Universal Studios to the Frisco family," Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney wrote in a Facebook post.Universal will also be opening its Super Nintendo World in California this year.
