is a nearly 500-page oral history of the rise of geek culture as shown through the development of Comic-Con. From its inception in 1970 — then known as the Golden State Comic Book Convention — started by a bunch of fan-clubs from San Diego high schools and local shops.isn’t as much about Comic-Con as it is about the rise of pop culture as the dominant medium of our modern era. “It’s really a nostalgia tour of the last century,” Klickstein says.
