Matos has been compared to fellow Venezuelan outfielder and Braves superstar Ronald Acuña.

PHOENIX — Out of the three big prospects to join the Giants in their 2018 international class, Luis Matos was, at least by signing bonus, the third of the group.

“He was a kid with a lot of energy, working,” Borg said. “He paid attention to a lot of little details and I think that’s why he’s developing so fast.” The trio of Luciano, Pomares and Matos all opened 2021 at Low-A San Jose and had strong starts to the season . Curiously, the Giants promoted both Luciano and Pomares to High-A Eugene but not Matos, who stayed in San Jose for all of 2021.
