The city ran out of sandbags on Tuesday morning as residents prepared for this week's upcoming storm.

San Franciscans are preparing for a huge wind and rain storm that is expected to hit the Bay Area on Wednesday.City workers in San Francisco are rushing to distribute sandbags to residents whose homes are at risk of flooding during this week's fast-approaching, driven by the second powerful atmospheric river to pummel the region in less than a week.
The city has handed out approximately 8,500 sandbags since Saturday, according to San Francisco Public Works, and is prepared to distribute more. Supplies are limited, though; the agency even ran out of sandbags for a short time on Tuesday morning. While it has since replenished its supplies, officials are still urging residents to take sandbags only if their homes have flooded before.
"If your properties haven’t flooded in the past, there’s a much slighter chance that your properties are going to flood this time," said Rachel Gordon, a spokesperson with San Francisco Public Works."So we really want to encourage people to get sandbags only if you really think you need them, because we want to make sure the people who really do need them get the chance with these limited supplies.
